| MR AI Score | 4.7 / 5 | 4.4 / 5 |
| Pricing model | Freemium | Freemium |
| Entry paid plan | Mail Plus, $4.99/mo | Premium, $2.49/mo |

| Main trade-off | Some features need the Proton apps | Interface looks dated |
Proton Mail is the default for people who want email that providers can't read: end-to-end encryption, Swiss jurisdiction, and a free tier to start. Paid plans fold in VPN, Drive, and Calendar for a genuinely private ecosystem. The trade-offs are the usual privacy tax: some features need Proton's own apps, and search isn't as slick as the big providers.
RoboForm has been around for decades and it shows in the one area it still leads: filling complex web forms faster and more reliably than anyone. Pair that with genuinely low pricing and it's a strong value pick. The interface looks its age and it lacks some modern flourishes, but the fundamentals are solid.
In our reviews Proton Mail scores 4.7/5 and RoboForm scores 4.4/5, but the better tool depends on your needs: Proton Mail suits privacy-conscious people who want encrypted email and a private ecosystem, while RoboForm suits people who fill lots of web forms and want low-cost password management.
Proton Mail uses a freemium model and RoboForm a freemium model. Both offer paid plans, so compare the entry tiers above for your usage. Always confirm current pricing on each vendor's site.
Choose Proton Mail if privacy-conscious people who want encrypted email and a private ecosystem is your priority and end-to-end encryption by default matters most. Choose RoboForm if you are people who fill lots of web forms and want low-cost password management and you value outstanding web form filling.
