Best Email Marketing Software in 2026

These tools do roughly the same thing and bill for it in completely different ways, which is where the money goes. Brevo charges for the emails you send and holds unlimited contacts. ActiveCampaign charges for the contacts you hold, with a send cap on top, and every advertised price assumes a 1,000-contact list. Pick the wrong meter for the shape of your list and you can pay several times more for the same campaigns.

Brevo

Best value, and the right meter if your list is large but quiet: unlimited contacts, priced on sends. Free covers 300 emails a day, with a "Sent with Brevo" footer until you pay.

ActiveCampaign

The deepest automation builder here, and worth it if the logic is the hard part. Just note the prices are quoted per contact tier, and Plus includes only one user seat.

HubSpot AI

Right only if you are adopting the CRM too. The step from Starter to Professional is $800 a month plus a required one-time $3,000 onboarding fee, so about $12,600 in year one.

SMTP.com

Not a campaign tool, and it is on this list so you do not buy it as one. It is an SMTP relay for receipts, password resets and other transactional mail, from $25 a month.

How to choose

Picking the right tool for marketers and small businesses.

Start from the job you need done, not the longest feature list. Try the free tier first, test it on a real task, and keep only the tools that clearly earn a place. See our methodology for how we score, and compare any two tools side by side.

FAQ

Common questions.

What is the best email marketing software in 2026?+

Brevo for most small businesses, because the free tier is genuinely usable and it charges for emails sent rather than contacts stored. ActiveCampaign if your automation logic is complicated enough that the builder is the product you are buying. HubSpot only if you are committing to its CRM, since the email tool alone does not justify the price. The right answer depends far more on your list shape and your budget ceiling than on template galleries or deliverability claims, which are broadly comparable across all three.

Is pricing based on contacts or on emails sent?+

It differs by vendor, and this is the single most expensive thing to get wrong. Brevo bills on sends and lets you hold unlimited contacts, so a big list you email rarely costs you nothing extra. ActiveCampaign bills on contacts held: its pricing page quotes every plan "for 1,000 contacts" and you move up a tier as the list grows, with a monthly send cap on top. HubSpot bills on marketing contacts plus user seats. If you have 50,000 subscribers and send one newsletter a month, Brevo is dramatically cheaper. If you have 2,000 subscribers and send daily, the gap narrows or reverses.

What is the best free email marketing tool?+

Brevo, and it is the only free tier on this list worth building on. It allows 300 emails a day, which is roughly 9,000 a month, with unlimited contacts and no credit card. Two catches to know: the daily cap is a hard ceiling, so a single 500-person send will not go out in one day, and free emails carry a "Sent with Brevo" footer that only a paid plan removes. HubSpot has free CRM tools for up to two users, but its free email is thin. ActiveCampaign has no free plan, only a 14-day trial.

How much does HubSpot Marketing Hub actually cost?+

More than the tier price, and the gap is not small. Its own pricing page lists Professional from $800 a month for three seats and 2,000 marketing contacts, and states that the cost "does not include the required, one-time Professional Onboarding for a fee of $3,000". Enterprise starts at $3,600 a month with a $7,000 onboarding fee. So the real first-year figure for Professional is around $12,600 before extra seats or contacts. Starter is a genuine $15 per seat, but the step up to Professional is a cliff rather than a stair, and it is the main reason to be sure about HubSpot before you start.

Do I need a transactional email service as well?+

If your product sends receipts, password resets or order confirmations, yes, and keeping them separate is the point. Marketing mail and transactional mail have different sending reputations, and a campaign that draws spam complaints should never be able to stop a password-reset email arriving. SMTP.com exists for that second job: it is an SMTP relay and email API from about $25 a month, with no campaign builder, and putting it on this list is a warning as much as a recommendation. Brevo is the one tool here that covers both, which is a real advantage for a small team that does not want two bills.
